  1. What is "Intown Atlanta"?
Intown Atlanta refers to our locations all sites inside I-285, with an emphasis on Midtown, Buckhead & Downtown.

  2. What do you mean by "South Atlanta" & "Fayette County"?
In our effort to better serve our students, many of whom travel great distances to take part in the program, it is our goal to tentatively have host sites south of the city of Atlanta. Our "South Atlanta" sites are on the southern edge of the city: FedEx (Aviation Blvd near the airport) & Chick-fil-A (Buffington Road off of Old National Highway). Our Fayette County location is still being determined. This site will more than likely be in Fayetteville or Peachtree City, and we will update this location as soon as details are finalized.

  4. Can I choose which company will serve as my host?
We allow students to list their preferred locations, and whenever possible, we will attempt to accomodate these requests. However, we cannot make any guarantees. Additionally, while we do not have a hard cap on the number of students from a certain school that can be part of any one student company, it is our strong preference to have a healthy diversity of schools represented in each group, which we feel ultimately benefits all students involved.

  5. What if I don't know my counselor's name?
That's okay - we'll let them squeeze by!

  6. Will I be able to balance my academic workload with the demands of the JA Fellows?
The answer to this question varies depending on the individual. Your first priority should be academics. If you are currently struggling to stay on top of your coursework, we may not be the best fit. Think of us as a next generation extracurricular activity that pays dividends (both literally & figuratively!) down the line. We an excellent way to bring real-life, hands-on, FUN, practical & enriching experience into your world.

  7. How much time outside of scheduled meetings & events will the JA Fellows require?
To get the most out of the program, in addition to the weekly sessions and occasional special events, students should expect to spend on average 1-2 extra hours per week. The key words are "on average"! Some weeks will require less additional time than others. Activities such as selling stock & product or preparing for competitions will require more effort. Some of this work can be done individually within the confines of the student's home, but some might require the student to meet up with others from their group.

  8. What are some of the additional opportunities that are available to JA Fellows outside of the core program?
Due to our extensive network of connections, we are able to offer our Fellows plenty of chances to attend events that they might otherwise have no access to, or have to pay a pretty penny to attend. They run the gamut from business focused to fairly whimsical - but hey, who doesn't like a few perks? Some examples of these ever-changing and growing opportunities are: Junior Achievement of Georgia's annual black-tie fundriaser, the annual dinner & meeting of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, chances to travel to competitions around the nation (& even globe!!!), Falcons/Hawks/Thrashers tickets, shows at the Fox Theatre, and too many more to list!!!

  9. What is the attendance policy?
Students will meet one night a week from 5:00 to 7:00 pm when the program is in session. Due to the limited number of spots available, unexcused and/or excessive absences will result in dismissal from the program.

With the exception of family emergencies & illness, your JA Fellows colleagues, JA Fellows staff members, & your volunteers must be made aware of planned absences well in advance of the actual date(s). Again, we realize these are rigid policies; however, this is a tremendous opportunity, and to make the most of it, we expect you to attend regularly.

  10. What is the behavior policy?
We expect all JA Fellows to exemplify professional decorum & behavior at all times. A lack of respect for other students and/or adults will result in dismissal from the program. Students will also be expected to observe any and all regulations of their host sites, and be aware that their actions are a reflection on the entire program and Junior Achievement of Georgia. All student mobile devices should be turned off or silenced and put away during JA Fellows sessions & special events. All i-pods, mp3 or other musical devices should also be removed. Headphones and blue tooth devices should never be warn during JA Fellows sessions or special events.

  11. How much does the JA Fellows cost?
Due to the generous support of our sponsors, we are able to provide our program at no cost to the student. Some additional opportunities, such as Innovation Camp, may have nominal costs associated with them, but we will always strive to award need-based scholarships to ensure that financial concerns are never a barrier to participation.

  12. Do you have more information & details about the curriculum?
For more details about the core curriculum covered, please visit:
    http://www.ja.org/programs/programs_high_overview.shtml

The JA Company program forms the foundation of the JA Fellows experience, and is suplemented with other offerings, such as: JA Business Ethics, JA Exploring Economics, JA Sucess Skills, JA Careers with a Purpose, & more. We enrich the experience by offering numerous avenues for personal & professional development and are constantly seeking out best practices to ensure that the JA Fellows is second to none.

  13. Is there a dress code?
There is no specific dress code for the majority of weekly meetings, but many of our students choose to model professional dress during these sessions. Certain events, such as company charter presentations, job shadows, competitions & awards ceremonies will require students to adhere to business dress. Students will be provided with advance notification whenever possible if more formal dress is required.

We have no desire to stifle the individual creativity and self-expression of students when it comes to dress; however, erring on the side of caution is recommended, especially in a corporate setting.  Avoid suggestive t-shirts, overly baggy pants (i.e. we don't ever need to see the brand of your boxers!), excessive bling and jewelery, hats, low cut blouses, mini-skirts, etc. Common sense goes a long way. We like to think of it as a practice run for the future. And for the love of all that is good in the world, remove your headphones and bluetooth devices and put away your phones! Please note that your host site may choose to enforce a stricter dress code at their discretion.

  14. Do students need to have an e-mail account? Can a parent/guardian just check it for them?
All applicants must have an e-mail account that they check regularly for information  and correspondence pertaining to the JA Fellows. This is not the responsibility of the Parent/Guardian - this is the responsibilit of the student. If you can access MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter, you have the ability to check your e-mail!!! Most school media centers or public libaries should offer you the ability to briefly check your e-mail, even if you have limited internet connectivity at your residence.

Be sure to change your SPAM (Junk e-mail) settings to allow messages from e-mail addreses ending in @georgia.ja.org. E-mail is one of our primary methods of communication, and it is vital that you are able to communicate with us electronically. If you do not currently have an e-mail account, please register for a free e-mail account with a provider such as Gmail or Yahoo prior to beginning your application. We strongly encourage you to register for e-mail addresses that are professional in nature (i.e. a combination of your name and numbers versus any slang or suggestive nicknames).

  15. How many Recommendations do I need?
New applicants need one solid recommendation. Please have no more than two submitted on your behalf, and try your best to stick to one!!! Returning students do not require recommendations.

  16. Do you provide MARTA cards or reimburse public transportation?
No. We are unable to provide reimbursement for MARTA/public transportation.
